Beatnik

My buddy really got me into The Clean recently. Seems like none of their albums have been re-issued on vinyl but there is word of a re-issue of their anthology album in the near future. The clean was a short lived band from Dunedin, New Zealand. Many bands such as The Verlaines, The Chills, and the Dead C came out of Dunedin in the early 80's bringing new sounds and styles to pop music, but none did it as well and in such a short period as The Clean did. This song, Beatnik, wasn't featured on any of their studio albums, but was featured on the Anthology album. Great track from a great band. Enjoy.

Sex Church

Here is the final track off the A-Side of local band Sex Church's "Six Songs By Sex Church" LP.The album was released by New York's Convulsive records. My favorite local album of the year, hands down. The band consists of Ex members of Catholic Boys, Master Apes, and Ladies night, although this album is a far cry from their thrashy garage roots. Great bummer rock for fans of the cheater slicks, Faust, Wipers, and Spacemen 3. Go out and buy the record.

Trixie Stapleton 291

Here is an album by French Kraut/Experimental band Fille Qui Mousse. I know little to nothing about this band, but I really like this Album. The Album is called Trixie Stapleton 291 and it was supposed to be released in 1973 but was never pressed. Supposedly only a few test copies of this album were in existence till the late 90's where bootlegged copies were started to be pressed. For fans of Can or Guru Guru this album comes highly recommended.

Rum Drunk

Here is a great cover of Australian garage band The Moods song "Rum Drunk". The Cover, which is done by Boston band The Cheater Slicks, was released on Dog Meat records as a single which also featured a second cover of Australian band The Lost Souls. The Cheater Slicks have a way of making songs their own, and Rum Drunk is a great example of how the Shannon Brothers can intensify an already booze-fueled, dark, and aggressive garage track.

Smokescreen

Here is the first single by English punk  band "Desperate Bicycles". The single, Smokescreen, was recorded in East London in 1977 and released by the band under their label "Refill Records". The band is noted for their DIY ethics, which are mentioned at the end of the B-Side by singer Danny Wigley. This is a great gritty punk single that has a lo-fi sound that many bands would love to be able to replicate today.

My Face Is On Fire

Hey,
This is my first post so I thought I would share a great single by the band Felt. This single was one of the 10 singles released by Felt over a ten year span between 1979-1989. The "My Face Is On Fire" single was put out in 1982 on Cherry Red. None of the Felt records to my knowledge have been re-issued on vinyl, although a few years ago Cherry Red did repress some of the albums on CD. This is a great early single by a band that made some of the greatest pop songs in the 80's. If you are a fan of Creation and Sara records bands then this would be up your ally. Enjoy!
